About me . . .

My name is Jo and I am the dress maker, mess maker, creative force and girl boss behind With Love and Lace . . .

I just love everything about my job; being able to share in the joy and excitement of a brides special day never looses its magic.

Ancient History

I fell in love with design at a very young age when my mum and dad gave me a fashion wheel, like a lot of little girls I dreamt about being a designer when I grew up (if my career as a rock guitarist failed that is, but I did marry one of those so I got the best of both worlds!)

One of my very early designs – I still struggle with hands!

The CV Bit . . .

I have over fifteen years experience in fashion and design. I made my first wedding dresses aged 17 as part of my final year A-level studies, I then completed my BA (Hons) Degree in Fashion Design and Marketing. My graduate collection was shown on the catwalk at Graduate Fashion Week and featured on style bubble.com and WGSN. I then went on to graduate from London College of Fashion with a Masters Degree in Fashion Design and Technology, with my work being exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts.

My interest in the more hands-on technical side of fashion led me to pursue a career as a Garment Technologist and later a Freelance Technical Manager working for suppliers to some of the UK’s top high street brands including ASOS, Topshop, Miss Selfridge, George and Debenhams. I was responsible for overseeing garments throughout the entire production chain from design development, fittings, fabric testing through to construction and quality control, working with the designers, buyers, and factories.

I loved my job and worked hard to build my career in London for over ten years but still I yearned for something more creative and even more hands on.

In 2013 I made a very important dress, my own wedding dress.

I loved everything about planning my big day as well as designing and creating my own dress. Being able to make the exact dresses I wanted for myself and my maids was great and I just wanted to be able to do that for other brides. So . . .

With Love and Lace . . .  was born

All of my creations are designed and hand made by me in my Kent studio. I really enjoy making everything from start to finish and take huge pride in my work. There is no better feeling than handing over a brides dream dress that we have created together, knowing that it has the power to make her feel amazing on her most important day.

If you’re not bored of hearing about me yet . . .

Some other interesting facts; aside from my passion for beautiful bridal wear I also love art, music, gymnastics, circus and dance. As well as anything vintage, especially if the paint is falling off and it is going rusty!

I am also a keen costumier specialising in making dance costumes for burlesque, pole and aerial artists : PerfeXion Clothing

And more than anything I love my family. My super supportive husband, Matt and my son ‘Little Love and Lace’.
